PTC is a good form of XFMR protection.

Transformer protection is assemblage of the main protective devices i.e. the differential and buchholz relay which isolate the transformer from both ends if it should operate. It also include supervisory device like the arcing horn, breather, oil temperature indicator, winding temperature indicator, the pressure relief valve etc that protect the transformer from both external & internal fault.
