Stray cat had kitten at our house-- kitten has opened it's eyes a few times --they are now shut--the kitten is over a month old--does not seem to be mattered shut--warm clothes help but are shut again the next day---any thing else I can do at home---may have to visit vet-- I am sure we will be keeping the kitten--Thank You for any advice that I can do here at home
I have only been on this site 10 minutes, and I can tell you that you will get nothing but criticism from these stuck up snobs, seems if you don't have money to give to the vet, you are incompetent and stupid, I wonder, were they always this ignorant, or were they born with money!

I think not, maybe the stuck up snobs need to be just a little bit more compassionate towards people who want to help but don't have the money you do. You want to help? Yep, I would recommend taking it to the vet. It's not matted, but is their any crusted eye "goo" or anything around the eyes? There could be seeping puss or something sealing them shut.
You are right, a kitten's eyes should be open by now. Is it both eyes, or just one? Is it the only kitten of the litter? Is the mother still around?
I would also recommend a damp, warm towel, and wiping the eyes out. Does this only happen after the kitten sleeps? Maybe try watching. Perhaps it gets into something, are the eyes sealed shut, or the kitten just doesn't want to open them?
However, I am no vet, and if this doesn't get results, then, unless someone else has better ideas, I say take it to a vet.

I'm not rich, I barely get by, but my pets and my kids never go without, because I chose to have them, they didn't choose to be here.
Snobs? No. We do have compassion, for the animals, not for the owners that can obviously afford internet but can't afford to get their pets the care they need.

Kittens normally open their eyes between 7 and 14 days. They don't always open on the same day but normally will open within 48 hours of each other. On occasion kittens get an infection which reseals an open eye or stop ones from opening at all.
