    Hair wrong color
My 17 year old daughter went to get her dark brown hair dyed yesterday, asking for a medium/light brown, and specifically requesting NO RED, but the top turned out quite red and the remainder turned out okay. The hairdresser did the top first, because the roots were very dark.

So, she went back today to get it corrected and she is still dissatisfied as the top is still very red.

Will it harm her hair to go back to her hairdresser this week and have it dyed a third time? I don't understand why professionals can't dye without the red hues.

Thanks for any advice, as I don't think I'd be able to correct the problem myself.

It would be a good idea to take her back to the salon and have the hairstylist do a color correction. If her hair has a red cast, then the hairstylist will need to use a green-base color to neutralize the red tones.

I called and the hair dresser said "it isn't red, that's the way her hair turns out". She said the only thing she can do is dye it darker. I told her about the green base to neutralilze the red and she didn't want to listen or understand, so guess we're out of luck and need to find someone who knows what they're doing. Dark brown seems very difficult to dye lighter without red. How do you find a good colorist?

If the hairstylist went to cosmetology school, he/she would know that you have to use an ash color with a green base to neutralizes unwanted red tones in the hair. What you can do is talk to the manager of the salon. Tell the manager that your daughter isn't happy with the color, and the manage will appoint you to another hairstylist in the salon to fix her hair. But, if you don't want to go back to that salon, you can ask your friends and acquaintances about their hairstylists. Look for a hairstylist with experience and specializes in hair coloring. Good luck.

When calling around to find a good stylist, ask if they do "color corrections." Really, all salons are supposed to provide color correction services, but using the right terms will help you find an answer to your daughter's hair problem. Good Luck!
