OK when I was 2 months old my father went to prison. He's been there ever since. Hell be there intill my older sis grads. In 2011. I am now turning 15. I don't know him and I don't know much about him. My mother won't tell me anything and neither will my sister or brother. My grandpartens are the only people that ever tell me anything. But they bearly tell me anything. I want to know more I want to know about him. I wish I could get in some kind of contact with him. He's been gone my whole life and I don't think that's right. I think he needs to take some kind of father role in my life. But anyway his name is Adam Shields. If anyone can give me some advice id really appreactite it.

I'm of the impression that he's not too great of a guy, and your family is trying to protect you. Your idea of him being a father to you may be very unrealistic and it sounds like they know that, and would just as soon not see you go through seeing him let you down as they have been let down by him.

You can try to sit down with your family and explain that if they could just tell you why he's in prison and why they don't want you to have a relationship with him, you might be able to find peace with the situation as it is. Perhaps they can't tell you the whole story, but could tell you how your parents met, what they liked about each other. You might be able to ask, "did he get involved with bad people, or drugs or something?" or, "did he hurt people?" They might be able to give you pieces.

Best wishes to you. If nothing else, when you are 18, you can pursue the truth on your own - you can find him, and get his side of the story and see for yourself what kind of person he is.

All else aside he's your father and I think you have the right to know what the true story is. Perhaps the family is concerned because of your age. However, you can reach out to him when you are of legal age.

In the meantime I would not judge him (and I don't think you have). People make mistakes and learn from them.

I would ask for information but unless people are willing to give it to you you'll have to wait until you are legal age.
