My brother lives in SC and his A/C unit (heat pump) went out and he wants to replace it but does not want to have an inside part. I thinks it's called the air handler. Do they make A/C and heat (heat pumps) units that are completely outside?

Yes they are called packaged systems. They are completely outside and the air is ducted into and out of the building.

Most Package units are for commercial installation. The look is very industrial and not very efficient because of the insulation would need to be weather resistant and a higher r value. I would not recommend this type of unit.

My state has many,many package units in homes,, they work fine, it seem the worse prob. Is dampness get to the circuit boards someimes

I was just wondering because it was stated the there is a problem with moisture getting to the circuit boards. I know that it is humid in Belton, SC.

Humid isn`t the problem,, wet swampy yard,, bad gutter system,, bad drainage

If done properly a can of clear acrylic lacquer spray will help to seal the circuit board. Been there done that.

While I am on this subject can someone give me an idea of the approx cost to replace the heat pump with a packaged unit? I have no idea how much such a unit costs or the service charge to do something like that. I'm sure my brother can remove the old stuff and do some cleaning(prep work) up around everything. He lives in a 16X80 mobile home that is approx 8-10 yrs old. I believe it has single pane windows with attached storm windows. The back half of the home faces west, the front half faces east and the ends are facing north and south. There are approx 9 windows approx 2'X3'. 4 facing east, 3 facing west and 1 each facing north and south.

When he bought the home the dealer made him think he was doing him a good deed by installing a 3 1/2 ton heat pump unit. He now knows that was the wrong size and figures that is why he has had continued problem with his system. We're thinking that he should have only had a
2-2 1/2 ton at the most.

Myself,I wouldn`t install anything any smaller than a 3 ton in a mobil home,not the best of insulation in them
You/he will need to get several price quotes from your/his neck of the woods
Equipment and labor cost vary from area to area
Mobil homes are the easiest type home to install a package unit in
