This is weird, no internet connection?
:mad:Okay so I can connect to the web as I am now writing this, But when I go to download a file that needs and internet connection, for example Google Earth, I get an error message saying "File cannot complete download due to no internet connect" then it tells me to repair my connection and try again. This is very frustration when it says "no internet connection" while at the same time I could be checking my EMAIL! How or what is going on here?

Hi! dav1d14, and welcome to AMHD :)

    Just two questions:
    Do you have mutiple Browsers?
If so, is one of them FireFox?

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any Software or Hardware that you installed or setup.

If using IE, try resetting defaults to see if that will help

    Follow Step 1

Restore the Default Settings for Internet Explorer

    Hi! seahwk83,

The reason I asked my two questions is because, that's the situation I was in, Mutiple Browsers/one is FF/loss of internet connectivity.

The only way I could connect was to open IE7 >

When it didn't connect, a page came up that offered to repair my connection >

I clicked on that, while it was checking my connection, it asked to have my modem
I have DSL shut off then back on after 3" >

The diagnostic finished, and I was allowed to connect to the Internet using either IE7 or FF.

Even using a separate winsock repair utility didn't help.
As long as I didn't shut down the OS everything was okay. If I did, I had to go through the whole procedure again to regain connectivity.

    Fast Forward,

I received my latest edition of windows secrets 060409 in there Brian explained 'bout how MS "quietly" installed :mad::mad: a "one click" "Assistant"  into the FF browser extensions Folder.

I had heard 'bout this earlier, checked.....didn't have it.....with my problem, and Wsecrets jogging of my memory, I checked again, and Lo and Behold! There it was! .NET Framework Assistant 1.0

I used the MS fix Brian suggested which is available on the free edition, and "all is right with the world" again.

This fix would only apply to Users that have FF 3.0.10 and .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed.

I do have an email out to WSecrets about this, but haven't heard back from them yet.

    Regards... KUXJ

I did install fire fox. But when I try to use fire fox it says "page can not be displayed: Check you internet connection and try again" After exiting Firefox I can get on internet explorer like there's no problem, but it still won't allow me to download programs that need an internet connection. I have also trie the apple Safari and it seems to me that the only program working on my PC is the IE, no other web browser work.

Other than Google earth, have you tried to download anything else and get the same message?

And you are getting the same message in both IE and Firefox?

After you installed Firefox, this started happening?

See if you can download this and if you can, run the application and let it repair 'fix' what it finds

    ccleaner (Freeware)
    Download CCleaner 2.20.920 - FileHippo.com
On the right hand side, click download latest version

seahwk83, a couple of ideas for dav1d14... reset the TCP/IP stack, or a corrupt winsock?

    seahwk83

    As mentioned, try above also

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Click the Fix it For Me link and download and run

I did everything you all have mentioned, the CC cleaner is great and makes everything run faster but it did not fix my problem. I reset the Internet Protocol. Problem is still not fixed.
Basically it seems to me that any program other than IE that needs an internet connection does not work, it says "page cannot be loaded, check your internet connection and try again" This is so annoying.

Are there any particular sites that you cannot get onto?

    Antivirus, Microsoft. Anything specific?
