If you decide to adopt by NOT going through the foster care system, I HIGHLY suggest that you get either a lawyer or use an agency. Yes, it's expensive, but it's more expensive (and FAR more painful) in the long run to have the adoption revoked because something wasn't done according to the letter of the law.
