My husband was asked to submit a writing sample for a technology specialist position in an intellectual Property Law firm. He has a PHD in Organic Chemistry. He has lot of publications and patents. Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is he the one applying for the position?

If so, he needs to do the work of selecting a publication that he has written that clearly shows the required knowledge and the proper acknowledgements and credits for terms or descriptions used.

Does he understand what Intellectual Property law is all about?

This is a position that will require that he be able to determine if there are any patent or copyright violations either within the description of the product or in the licensing of it's component parts from patent holders.

To be real honest, asking you to do this for him makes me question whether he is capable of performing the requisite tasks.

He did not ask me to do this! He definetely knows about IP matters. But he never submitted a writing sample before, as this will be a new career line for him! I was just trying to help and gather information on my own. That's what a good wife does!

Please do not take what I said as being caustic. I simply meant that he knows and understands what he has written and therefore would know if it matched the requirements of the job position.

If you and/or he, would like to post a draft on this thread of what he might need to submit, I'm sure that there would be those of us who would be willing to take a look at it and make suggestions as to how it might be improved. I would suggest not putting any contact information in the draft, though.

What are the specific things that he is required to include and subsequently have in the writing sample that's to be submitted, please?
