    Installing window's xp over 98
I sold my sister my old computer, which operated on window's 98. She bought windows xp and installed it. Now, when she starts her computer it gives her the option of running either 98 or xp. Another friend told me to do a "clean install" and gave me a website with instructions on how to do it. Well, it didn't work out. Is there any other way to get rid of windows 98? Or is it OK to have that option to run both?

Before you try anything else try the quick fix:

Thanks, we did the boot option, but the 98 is still valid. It's not an orphan, what do we do now?

Did you install XP using an XP Upgrade CD or a Full Installation CD?

If it's getting in the way (it certainly would take up valuable hard drive space) then your next step is to format the hard drive and install XP onto the newly formatted drive.

If you go this route, you must take some care to save any data you currently have on the hard drive onto a CDR, if you have a burner, or a USB memory key. Also make sure you have the XP registration key for when you will reinstall XP.

I could find a website that walked you through the steps to do this but, if your sister and yourself have never done that before, perhaps the best approach is to get a computer-geek family member or friend who has done this before.

You probably aren't doing a full partition, it gives you that option and most people don't read it fully, you would press full partition, c then L that would swipe it clean.
