This site can be confusing at first, you posted in the forum help area, where you ask questions about how to use the site. I have moved this to the dog area

I've never ever heard of a dog starving to death with food out. If you put dog food out he'll eat it eventually. He may refuse to eat for like a day but that won't hurt him.

He'll eat when he's hungry. If he goes too long without eating though take him to the vet. He could be sick. That's good you've stopped feeding him from the table though.

How old is the dog and what breed?

When was his last vet check?

Sometimes very young or very old dogs will be off their food for a few weeks.

Don't panic. If he is eating other food he should be fine. (health wise)

I would highly advise against giving him table food.
This is basically rewarding him for not eating his own dinner.

I need some more information before I can give a better response.

Sorry, I am a dope... you said he was 1 year old, and a poodle, I must have completely skipped that first sentence

Knowing when his last vet check would still be handy though.

Other than that you could try switching dog food brands or soaking his dry food in a low salt chicken broth.

I personally don't believe in changing foods when they get picky, or adding things - no offense Shaz! I would remove everything else from the dog's diet except for dog food. It can be a battle of wills - but it's my experience that almost all dogs will come around after a couple days and start eating the dog food.
Your dog might have learned that if he doesn't eat the dog food, he'll get something more interesting. My vet has always told me that a dog will NOT starve itself to death! :) Hang in there - be strong!
If there are any medical conditions or symptoms that worry you, please contact your vet.
