First thing, means the term n of a sequence. So, means that it is the first term of a sequence.

Now, an arithmetic progression is a sequence where the you have a fixed value added or removed from the previous term.

If you are given the equation of a sequence, for example, replacing n by the term number will give you the term you're looking for.
