I've got a three speed desk fan. Similar to this:

It's much older than this model (like 10-15 years older).

I'm trying to rewire to the input and the controller but it's getting complicated. I don't know if it used a capacitor (probably) but since I don't have one just leave it out for now.

Out of the motor there is the main cord with seven wires in it.
1. Ground
2. Blue
3. Blue
4. Red
5. Red
6. White
7. Brown

Leaving the others out if I connect the 1 red ans 1 blue on the neutral (of the mains) and 1 red and 1 blue on the life (of the mains) it works slowly.

It also works if I take one of the blues of.

How can I figure this one out to connect it to the controller and the mains?

I scavenged an AC 240V motor out of a desk fan and I'm trying to wire it to a 3 speed button control of a similar fan.

Problem is the wiring is quite confusing. There are seven wires out of the motor

white - brown - 2x red - 2x blue - ground

How am I to wire it to the controller and the mains live, neutral and ground?
(you can leave the ground out)

If I attach the reds and blues to the neutral and live one red and blue on each side, it works as long as the electromagnets inside are of the same polarity.

How was the original control wired? What was wrong with it?

Most of these desk fans use shaded pole motors with multiple taps.

7 wires makes no sense unless it is a reversible fan.

Did it have a capacitor?

Yes it has a capacitor.

I know 7 wires is unusual cause mostly they have only six or less.

I don't know how the original control was connected

I presume It was similar to this:

1 - ground
2 - live
3 - live from capacitor
4 - ?
5 - ?
6 - ?
7 - ?

I'm sorry, I don't think this is anything I can help with without seeing it. The two fans presumably have very different switches and wiring.

Don't worry I pop off the motor cover and unveiled the mystery...

Yes only it starts a little bit slowly. I think the capacitor is the problem. I'll try to find one.
