    Ferpa hippa
I work in a school office. It is very open. Parents roam about freely and can overhear discussions in the principals office as well as in the guidance, attendance and health room. Records are not locked. Are we violating ferpa and hippa laws. I am told because we are a parochial school, ferpa and Hippadoes not apply to us. Thank you.

I have been in situations like this where I or the person next in line over hear things.
I think if it is a concern to someone they can make a request to be in a more private area.

I am not sure about the 'legal' or ethical answer on parochial schools. You could bring up your concern and ask for a meeting to resolve a better solution.

It is not a Hipaa violation unless the nurse is
The one letting others hear because for it to be Hipaa it has to be a medical professional.
