Recovery Rebate Credit - New SSN
My wife did not have a SSN at the time of filing our 2008 federal tax return, and therefore we were not eligible to get the recovery rebate credit. We used her ITIN at that time. She recently got her SSN and we would like to claim the credit.

    - Can we send an amendment (1040x) with her new SSN to claim the credit?

    - If this will work, do we need to attach copies of her ITIN and new SSN?

    Thanks.

Yes, you can amend the return and request the RRC.

No, copies of her ITIN letter is NOT required.

    Hello,

Did you get the RRC after amending the 2008 return with the new SSN?
I am in the same boat and on L1 Visa. What Visa is on your Wife?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,

    PG:

Yes, you can amend your 2008 return to claim the RRC, provided your wife was eligible for the SSN in 2008.
