Ok, did you stop payment on a check or did someone stop payment on a check they gave you.

Basically you don't get your money, or the bank charges your account back , so eiher way you don't keep the money.

The person who stopped payment pays a fee to the bank to stop it.

And if it is criminal depends on the what happened, which you did not tell us, but as long as the bank gets their money back no issue at all.

This is the story, I was working for a temp service that mailed my check when I was supposed to pick it up from the office, so when I got to the office they simply printed me another one and told me to discard the other one as it came in the mail, Well I kept the check rather than discarding it as I was supposed to, got broke and ended up cashing the check.. is that bad?? OMG!

So you are saying you cashed a payroll check you were not supposed to, because they had already issued you a check? That is going to cause you some problems. Better get this straighten out or you may be in hot water

Is it bad? Depends... does a year in jail sound bad to you? Cashing a check you know is invalid is a pretty serious crime (Check fraud) and could very well land you in jail.
