    Second floor DWV
    All,

I have a second floor bath which I am remodeling. There is an existing 3" stack through the roof.

I have a 2" line from the stack with a 1.5" lav drain and a 1.5" vent to the attic.

I also have a 2" line from the stack with a 2" shower drain and a 2" vent to the attic.

    I am adding a tub

    My question is:

Can I drain the tub on the lav line with the 1.5" vent? (I believe it should be a 2" vent)

Can I drain the tub on the 2" shower line?

Is there some combination that will work?

    Hi Shipswake...

Drain the tub into the 2" shower drain with the 2" vent. Here, the 2" vent/drain from the shower will be perfect to WET VENT the tub... ;)

If wet venting isn't allowed in your area then you will need to install a 2" x 1.5" wye into the shower drain (after the 2" vent connection) and run 1.5" over to the tub and then run 1.5" tub vent and connect into another vent at a minimum of 42" off the finish floor.

I'm betting you can wet vent the tub! Check with any local plumbing inspector and just ask if wet venting a tub with a 2"shower drain/2"vent is OK... it is in most states.

Let us know if you need more info...

    Thanks for the reply Mark

I am also in Ma, so I assume wet venting is OK.

    Absolutely OK here...

Connect into the shower drain... should be all set!
