    what would i gain
I have a 12 inch x 6 inch thick flywheel it weights about 200 lbs. a 1 inch diameter x 18 inch long shaft goes through the middle of the flywheel it sits on center. I’m going to rotate the 1” shaft to 1200rpms. Can you calculate the amount of torque or horsepower it will produce. What would I gain by turning the flywheel at 1200rpm as opposed to 0 rpm. Please write down your formulas and your conclusions .also it would OK to graft it .
    thanks don

    Perito

The kinetic energy of a flywheel is given by:

where Ek is the kinetic energy, I is the moment of inertia of the mass around the center of rotation, and ω is the angular velocity.

The moment of inertia, I for a solid cylinder is given by

where m is the mass and r is the radius.

At 0 RPM, there is no kinetic energy.
