    Citizen marrying permanent resident
My girl friend is living in California and is from Mexico. She has been in the united states for almost 9 years as a legal resident. She has a green card. What kind of rights does she have to citizenship if we get married? What would she have to do? Estimated cost? Time? Should I have her apply before we get married?

If she has been a permanent resident for 9 years and meets the other requirements, she can file for citizenship. She doesn't need a USC spouse for her to file for citizenship.

It is taking the USCIS about 4-6 months for most N-400 applications. Good luck!
