Losing bathtub faucet for replacing it
I am trying to replace a single handle bathtub faucet because of leaking. I got the crystal handle off but the round base ring has been partially stripped. We have really hard water.
How can I get this off? And to you go left or right to undo it.

Thank you for responding. I am at work and will try to post a picture when I get home. It is a delta. You know the one you see all the time with the clear "plastic ball". That I got off, difficult but I did it. We have real hard water and so everything is yucky. I just can not get the ring around the ball joint to budge. An it's worse because so many of the grip threads are worn down. Not much to grab to. If I can't get it loosened up what do you do? Replace the whole thing?

The round plate should be held in by screw-in tubular trim. You have to unscrew it, preferably by hand.

If you are having trouble griping it by hand, wrap it with masking or duct tape to improve grip. Double sided tape gives you a real good grip.
