By popular demand I have to use the climb. I am trying to stay away from Graduation by vitamin c although I probably will not be able to avoid it. I want to use Viva la Vida by coldplay but I don't know if it's an appropriate graduation song. What do you think? Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You realize that you may have to get permission to use copyriughted materials?

For a graduation??
I never heard of the need of permission to play a song at a graduation.

Its not like their going to play it, record it and label it as their own music.

I know that but all I have to do is reformat it for powerpoint. I've done it before. I'm only going to play it at a small christian school graduation.

No you don't have to get permission I didn't

If you play copyrighted music for a public gathering, then yes, legally you have to get permission. As an example, on American Idol, during one of the weeks, Simon picked a U2 song for Adam. In prefacing the song he talked about talking to Bono to get permission to use it.

Are you likely to get in trouble for doing it, no, the risk is small. Its unlikely the copyright holder will even know of the usage let alone go after you for its usage. But legally you do have to get permission.

Well you might be right, but I believe that a man/band of God isn't going to freak out on their song being played at a graduation.
Bono, well I don't know anything about him (sorry never cared for his music) but he might get lippy if his music is used on America Idol but doubt it for a graduation.

By the way... when will they stop making that pathetic show. It's a waste of air time.
