    Daily intake of foods with cholesterol
    How much cholesterol in food can a person with Diabetes and a Heart condition eat in a day? I try to buy foods with no cholesterol but don't know what a "good" level is. Should I buy only foods less than 5 mg or 25 mg or what?

    Are you not on cholesterol medication at the moment ?

    I don't know how well your food items are marked where you are. Ours show some as 0% cholesterol, as it should be.

    Yes, I'm on 2 different types of Cholesterol medications, however, I am supposed to keep my intake of cholesterol in foods down as well, but no one seems to be able to tell me how many grams a day are OK. I know I can have up to 2000 mg of salt a day and I know that I shouldn't eat a food with more than 11 gr of sugar in it and that I am to have 45-60 gr of carbs per meal (which includes the sugar intake). Pretty much all foods here are labeled with the number of grams or millegrams of various things that are in them. Packages that come from the US don't usually have the labels with this information on it though so if I shop at Costco or Almost Perfect I have to be careful what I buy because I don't know the breakdown of ingredients.

    I think you are making your quest too complicated. What you want to do is almost impossible if packages in the food store aren't labelled with this information.

    You can manage your diet by eating foods that manage your cholesterol for you, along of course with proper medication, as on this site from the Mayo Clinic. I watch what I prepare and eat for myself, have proper med, and my six month check up shows my cholesterol is fine.

    I don't know about 'safe' cholestrol levels in food but eating good fats such as olive oil and eating a high fiber diet are good things you can do.
    Also take Co Q10. Cholestrol medicines keep your body from producing Co Q10 naturally. Europe requires doctors to prescribe Co Q10 or have it in the statins.

    Tickle - sorry about the slip with the name! I will look at the MayoClinic site - thanks. I am hoping someone can say you can have X# mg of cholesterol a day in your food. That would be easy to track using the nutrition labels. I am buying what I think is low levels but not knowing what is low and what is high defeats that. I'll check out that site - thanks. Lin

    Thanks for your response. I'll look into the Co Q10. I can't have a high fibre diet - I have Crohn's Disease. I have to limit salt, fat, and cholesterol due to a heart condition, and carbs and fats due to Diabetes, and fibre due to Crohn's.
