Make sure all bills are up to date, rent, etc. clean out the apartment. That would seem to be the only responsibility.

The family has only one responsibility. That is to your ex tennent. They are not obligated to pay his/her bills. That's a separate issue. Is there some problem going on ? Is there something specific ?
