I decided that I was sick of having roots show so I wanted to dye my bleached blonde hair to the color at my roots (dusty blonde). I can't afford to go to a color stylist at the moment but I figured since I'd be going darker (and matching to my scalp color) it'd be an easy process. I chose the shade that best matches my color and went for it. The area that the bleach was on is now a silvery grey color. It looks horrible in indoor light and just slightly strange in natural sunlight. I just dyed it about 2 hours ago and I'm hoping I can do something now in order to restore it to a natural-looking color. I've read the threads about lightening/fading dark shades with laundry detergent, dish soap, and baking soda. What color will these change the grey into? I'm not sure if the chemicals reacted oddly to one another where the bleach was causing the grey or if there was too much of an anti-brass product (blue malva or some other form of toner) in the dye itself. Is there a type of toner that'd help my hair fade from grey to something more natural? It's not severely silvery-grey, just has that look to it.

Also just to clarify--I am only 20 years old so grey is definitely not a natural color for me and I've never had so much as one grey hair. I'm a natural blonde and would like to stay that way.

Bleached blonde hair can turn green, orange, blue or gray when you color it with a box color. If you attempt to dye your hair again, it will only make matters worse. If you want your natural color back, please go the salon and have them fix your hair. The hairstylist will mix a color to counter-act the gray/silver hue in your hair and give you your desired color.

I used a toner and got my hair to the color I initially wanted. It was only $7 too!

A toner can be a permanent, semi-permanent or demi-permanent color. I really don't know what type or color toner you've applied on your hair. Keep in mind that blonde hair can turn green, gray or other unwanted shades when you try to color over it yourself. If your hair starts to turn green or gray from the toner you've used, go see a professional hairstylist. The stylist will tone down unwanted shades, and she/he can give you tips on how to maintain your hair color.
