IL age child can request custodial parent change
At what age can an IL child request living with the current non-custodial parent? How do you go about this? Does it require a lawyer? If DCFS gets involved can they represent the child? Can the court appoint a guardian ad litum? Are IL judges typically compassionate if the child presents a compelling argument?

A child can never request a change in custody. Only a judge can make a decision as to a change in custody.

The non-custodial parent has to file for a modification of custody. The judge will listen to the child but make a decision based on the best interests of the child.

The child can at 18 when they become a adult.

There is nothing the child can do, the can testify in court if and when the non custodial parent files a motion for change in custody
