I'm trying to install a Motorola router of new AT&T DSL service. The DSL light will not come on - the power and ethernet light do. The phone jack works with a phone - but I just installed it and don't know if I could have done something wrong with the install of the jack. If the phone works should the DSL work? I rather not pay $150 for the technician to come out if I could fix. Thanks for any advice.

Do the following.

Make sure the cord works on the DSL modem. Try it on another phone.

Take the DSL modem and power from an extension cord and plug it into the NID outside. If it doesn't work there, then its either the DSL modem or the line. You don't need anything else connected. The DSL light usually blinks from a while until it gets a sync.

Come back with the results of this test.
