I cannot copy the 3.53Mb-sized mp3 audio file from my hard drive to my Lightscribe-labelled CD.

The error message which keeps being generated is: "WINDOWS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM WHEN TRYING TO COPY THIS FILE. WHAT DO YOU WANT WINDOWS TO DO?" (After innumerable unsuccessful tries, I could only think of obscenities to answer the question, "What do you want Windows to do?" LOL)

A friend told me, but couldn't explain why not, that you cannot copy an mp3 to a LightScribe CD? Is this true? And if so, why not?

I'm a professional who frequently needs to copy and label many demo CDs--hundreds at a time, both music and voiceover. I cannot afford either the money or time to pay a business to do this. And the reason I got a computer with a LightScribe optical drive was to become self-sufficient so that I can label my CDs directly on the CD without a paper label and avoid the many problems paper labels cause, such as making the disc spin off-balance and ultimately shattering the disc.

Urgently need the forum's help.

Lightscribe:the ability to print/create a picture... as seen on albums etc.. etc..


Lightscribe cd is a special cd that lightscribe can print that image on, other than that you should be able to burn your mp3 music using
Windows media player.



Your lightscribe is it up to date [new version/driver]?
Did your laptop/desktop get upgraded to vista or was I already vista ready w/ lightscribe?

Silly question..
Have you put the disc in the correct way round.
One side is the normal CD for writing data and the other is specially treated for the image (picture) burning.

You jumped the gun and made an incorrect assumption. Yes, I did insert the disc the correct way and am fully aware that the two sides have different functions.

Besides, there are many reasons for malfunction in addition to incorrectly inserting the CD.

Furthermore, it's neither nice nor accurate to have labelled mine a "silly question". Are you here to insult or answer?

I asked a perfectly valid question and yet you choose to take it the wrong way, as an insult.
I have no idea if you where indeed aware of the operation of Lightscribe technology as you didn't mention this in your post at all.
Seeing as you never returned, until now, I wasn't able to ask any further questions which might of enabled a resolution to your issue.

Anyhow, the LightScribe people never answered my question and the situation is still unresolved.

The file would need to be burned to the disk.

Is it a blank disc?

If you right click on the drive and go to properties, does it show that there is free space?

If previous data is on the disc, the disk may be finalized, meaning nothing further can be written to disc

Hi Christie, a side note... I changed my desktop "shortcut" for this website to this URL:

... which causes the site to come up in a very useful mode with all your subscribed threads with new responses already at the top of the screen. For the threads you're subscribed to that have no new responses, you can seem them quickly here as well by clicking the "View all subscribed threads" near the top right, or below your new reponses listing.

I have two laptops with LightScribe drives in them and I crank out CDs every other week using all the possible tools you'd expect to work. Windows Media Player, Sonic, EZ Creator... they all work exactly the same and will burn any audio format supported by the program.

The only thing I've noted about LightScribe is that when you DO flip the disc over and engrave the other side, it takes forever! Even the simplest of designs seems to take longer than practical (for me... ) so I've mostly stopped using that part and gone back to writing on the CDs manually. Like you, I've given up on stickon labels except for productions of CDs to be sold.

Does it work with normal cd's and not with lightscribe?

I don't even use Lightscribe CDs anymore, as I explained above. They take too long to engrave anyway.

Yes, regular CDs work at the same speed they do in other CD-writer drives, the only thing "unique" about Lightscribe drives is their ability to engrave the other side. Other than that, perfectly normal.
