    Main Panel and Subpanel
I'm currently renovating an outdated kitchen and my electrican wants to create a subpanel to house all of the Kitchen circuits. I currently have a 100 AMP Main Panel, which my electrician wants to hook up a 125 AMP Panel as a sub panel. I was concerned that the sub panel is 125 AMP and is 25 AMP more than my Main Panel (100 AMP). Do I have a cause for concern?

My lack of electrical knowledge has led me here because logic tells me you can't have a 125 AMP subpanel running off a 100 AMP main, but perhaps 125AMP is just the max rating and it could be used as a 100AMP panel. I'm not sure, so I'm asking the question.

    This logic is completely accurate.
It is likely that he will be using a 40, 50, or 60 amp sub-feed breaker.

Why not just ask him? Don't you trust him?

Hey, Thanks for the response. :)

Trust him, Yes. My electrician is an old family friend who is very old school and doesn't explain well, or just doesn't like to give clear explanations. Don't wish to offend him by asking the same question he couldn't explain the first time I asked him, so I figured I'd check online to see if I could find a clearing understanding on my own. I found this site and decide to give it a go. Thanks again for your response.

    Sounds perfectly fair.

What he is doing is perfectly typical.
It is actually hard to find a panel with more than a few spaces that is rated less than 100A, so you are fine.
