I have not had contact with my father in years. How would I find out who carried his insurance? I would rather my family not know that I am checking into it.

You couldn't possibly find out which insurance company it is without asking a close family member.

Even if you find out I don't think his insurance company will answer any of your questions. It is confidential information.

To add to what tick stated- there's a plethora of different insurance carriers (we're assuming you mean Life insurance) so there's no way of knowing which company. But even if you found the company they will not share the info with you unless 1) there is a death claim and 2) you are listed as the beneficiary.
