Ok so I'm 16 and just got my first speeding ticket. It says I was doing 75 in a 45mph zone. I know for a fact the road I was on is a 50mph zone all the way through the road. Would this misprint be enough in court to dismiss my ticket? I've never been to court before so how would it work? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess that if the speed limit was really 50 and you were going 75, you were still speeding. Don't speed anymore. Its people like you that give the rest of us young (good) drivers a bad name...

You appear, take your proof, attempt to get the ticket dismissed. I don't think that will happen. Unless you can get the radar printout set aside, I see you being found guilty of speeding.

You don't dispute the 75 mph; you dispute the speed limit on that stretch of road so I would guess you were speeding.

I wasn't going 75 but I have no proof other than what I saw I have never been pulled over before so I didn't know what to dispute if any but I realized later on that the speed limit was misprinted.

You argue about the accuracy of the radar - are you saying the Cop lied about both your speed and the speed limit?

At least locally and everywhere I have ever been a police officer about 1/2 of the time the officer does not appear in court. So if you merely show up and plead not guility you should get off.

In the 1/2 of the time the officer shows up, most are not getting paid to be there, it is their day off, or they work another shift, so most are not happy to be there to start with, so don't expect them to be pleasant

1. show that the road is 50 MPH with proof, photos of speed limit signs, go to the city or county hall or planning or DOT and get a statement for that exact area of highway.

It will not get your dismissed in most courts, but heck every judge is different but it will get the ticket reduced. It could save you 100s of dollars in fine, since 30 MPH over is often considered reckless driving

"I have never been pulled over before". You are 16. Here is what you do. You will get tons of mail from attorneys looking to represent you. Pick one of them and they guarantee no points. You might have to pay court costs and you will have to pay the attorney about $59.00. Lastly, don't speed, you are going to kill someone and then your life will be ruined.

A $59 Attorney fee - where do you live?

It is illegal in the State of NY for an Attorney to guarantee an outcome so, again, where do you live?

One other thing. Don't go to court yourself. You are 16 and to be bluntly honest you are not bright enough to fool anyone and you will dig yourself a bigger hole.

Florida

Attorneys are guaranteeing a result AND charging $59 for a Court appearance in Florida? I just got back, interviewed for a few jobs in law firms, that wasn't what I saw.

I have seen advertisements from attorneys as low as $39.00 up to $89.00. This is common practice.

Also, they guarantee no points. I am looking at one when I received a ticket.

If anyone receives a ticket in Florida they will be flooded with attorneys advertisements sent to there home looking to represent them. As I wrote before the cost will be $39.00 to $89.00 and they guarantee no points. There are plenty of attorneys in Florida where a majority of there practice is taking care of tickets.

What part of Florida were you in?

I was vacationing in the Tampa area, looking at real estate, seeing what the employment opportunities are.

The $59 ticket fee for the attorney is definitely a ticket clinic in Florida. They've been around awhile but I'm not too certain about "getting you no points" if you were going 30 miles over the speed limit. There are now a dozen lawyers on each street corner in Florida. Used to only be 3. Guess the turf is getting overcrowded with attorneys willing to work for peanuts now.

The OP is going to pay one way or another. Even if he gets the speed overage dropped to 25 miles over the limit, his auto insurance is going to go through the roof. Either way, you'll pay unless somehow the cop doesn't show up or the judge is in an extremely generous mood.

In general the "cheap" attorneys are ones that have an attorney who sits though most of the local traffic courts, they can charge this since they hope to have 10 or more people at each trial.

You can get no points by pleading NOLO on your charge ( first charge normally) and you pay the fine but there are no points given.

I know this is allowed in GA and in TN also.
