Okay so my hair is black on top and a chestnut blonde on bottom with blonde highlights thinly spread through the top. I want to go back to being medium brown. what should i do? and how should i do it. the black dye i used is called beijing. i dyed it back in late august/ early september and the colors still havent faded. I have tryed to dye over it but nothing takes the black out.

what would happen if i used peroxide on it?i used to do that to lighten my brown hair will it do the same for black?:confused::confused::confused:

When you tried to dye over it, you used peroxide, whether you knew it or not. Hydrogen peroxide (aka peroxide) is the developer used in permanent dyes. It does two things: 1) it lights the undertones, 2) it develops the color. Since hydrogen peroxide put the color in the hair (developed the color) what makes you think it will take it out?

The answer, of course, is that it won't take it out. Many people try hair bleach to get very dark pigments out only to find out that the artificial pigment that's deposited from haircoloring doesn't bleach out like natural pigment. It usually turns orange or yellow and then stops.

The solution is to use a haircolor remover first. Some are ColorFix, Color Oops, Color Zap, Color Charm Color Corrector, Igora Phantom.

With black pigment, I think you'll need two or three applications to get it all out. After you get the black out, your hair will be left a brassy color. You can re-dye that to get a more natural-looking color.

Word of caution... the hair color removers are strong reducing agents (powerful chemicals) and will strip the moisture from your hair as well. I tried this going from black back to my natural red. Get some good conditioner and plan on spending a night conditioning and babying your hair. A good brush with a boar bristle brush afterwards helped me a lot as well (I spent almost an hour brushing). Also... I didn't wash my hair for a week afterwards to let some of the oil replenish itself (yea sounds gross but it was so dry it needed it). After that it was fine and I was really glad I used the process. Good luck!

I really really need some help as I'm so confused with all the replys I've been reading on different websites lol!

I have been dying my hair for a couple of years now and I'm now a dark brown, few months ago I put a reddish brown on my hair and decided to put some blonde chunks through as well. Where I bleached it so much it did eventually start to break off so I dyed my hair dark brown all over again.
Ive now got to the point where I want to gradually get my hair to a dirty ash blonde as I had this colour few years ago and recently saw photos of me when it was this colour and loved it.
How do I go about starting this process? What will mixing peroxide with shampoo do?
I live in the UK and I'm a student so I don't have enough money to go to a salon

Yaya I'm a student too that's why I used the hair color remover. I used one called Color Oops, but I'm in the US so I don't know if they'll have it there. Just use the color remover, and then dye the color of choice over it (I got lucky and it turned mine back into my original hair color, but I'd only had the black dye in for a few months). The reason you need to use the color remover is because it actually removes the dye crystals from your hair. The peroxide will just bleach them, and if your hair is very dark it won't turn it light enough for you to do much with it.

Follow the directions on the box (I think it says don't wash your hair withint 24hrs of using it) and then when it removes your dye your hair will be left a strange light orangy color. This can be easily re-dyed the same night with whatever color you want (ashy-blonde). Then condition the hell out of it!!

Ok thanks! We have a Sallys over here will there be something like Colour Oops in there? When I put my blonde chunks in last year it went a bright orange colour, this will happen again I take it?
