How did you know he/she was the "one"
How did you decide the person you are with or married was the one for you?

Because rather than break up when things get hard, you stick together, work together and let NOTHING tear you apart.

That is what being love is all about. Love is hard, love is complicated, but love is also forever if you work together to keep it that way.

When I saw her smile... Haha!

Nah I knew she was the one the more we talked... we both revealed things about ourselves that we thought would creep each other out, but we found out those qualities that others didn't like, we loved!

When through them I learnt to love myself.

When their love of me was so unconditional that I could love unconditionally in return.

When we faced difficulties and adversity and crisis, we did it together and it brought us closer.

When their car in the drive made my heart jump. (And still does)

When I looked at them and saw sunshine, light and laughter.

    I wish

In addition to what Kctiger said:

When you have the mutual feeling of always wanting to see the other person happy.

When you take steps to avoid hurting the other person, but work hard to make them feel better if they do get hurt.

When you see your significant other happy, you are happy.

When they are angry or sad, all you want to do is cheer them up.

It's about being a reflection. You being a precious, if sometimes annoying presence in someone's life, that's seeing yourself reflected in their reaction to you. When you feel you can be yourself and still be precious to them, that's heaven.

For me, it was when I realized that I could be in peace with this woman. That she was genuinely my friend in the deepest sense and we wouldn't have to fight to get our needs met or to figure things out. That when I came home, and she was there, I knew I was going to laugh, be tender with her, and play.

It's been 30 years. We raised three sons together and now have an empty nest. We disagree about many things, see the world differently. But it doesn't matter. We enjoy the common ground we have made together.

    No question. She's The One.

Like KC said, when you take problems together, rather than apart. That's usually when a good foundation is established. Anyone can give up, it's the easy thing to do. But to place your heart, unconditionally, into the hands of another, that's courage and love.

All of your answers are beautiful. Thank you. I see my parents with all of them. I hope to one day have the same relationship.
