Ask Me Help Desk - Hearing strange noises day and night

About a week ago, I was trying to go to sleep at night and around 2:30 in the morning, I heard someone shaking the handle on my back door. Then, I kept feeling this creepy feeling that someone was in the house. I did not get up to investigate as I was too scared. Then, this past week, I was home from work sick (ok - playing hooky!) and my two yorkies were lying with me on the couch watching Marley and Me. All of a sudden, I heard one of their squeaky toy sounds coming from the other side of the house in the living room. I would have thought I was hearing things, but the dogs even got up and went to that part of the house to see what was going on. Now I'm kind of freaked out. I built this house in 1992, so we are the only ones to live in it. I have had strange things happen since my dad died in 1995, but none of it was scary.
BTW - I watched the movie again to make sure the squeaky toy sound was not part of the movie - it wasn't...

Any thoughts?

HI, what are the strange things that have happened after your dad passed? Dogs are very sensitive to spirit and with that,the squeaky toy and the door handle, and the house only having you ever lived in it, I would say that maybe spirit or dad are trying to get your attention. Not for any untoward reason at all, just saying hello most probably :)

Hi, thank you for your response. I feel better already. The day that my father passed away, we received a couple of hang up calls during the night. We have caller ID, and nothing registered to show us a phone number. As I remember, it just showed up as dashes --- --- ----. Also, a couple of days later (my mom was staying with me during this time) I was trying to go to sleep on the couch in my family room. I felt the back of a hand touch my cheek twice. I thought it was my mom. I opened my eyes and there was my dad surrounded by a very bright light. He was walking out of the family room, into my kitchen, toward the dining room. As he got further away, the image of my father faded as did the light. I sat up on the couch and literally pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It is as clear to me today as the night it happened. It wasn't scary to me, but thought maybe I was going a little crazy. :) I told a couple of my friends (people with strong faith in Jesus Christ) and they told me that I probably just really missed him. But, I know what I felt, and I know what I saw, so I never talk about it anymore. There have been other little things like stuff falling off counters that could never have done it on their own. Also, Will and Grace (my yorkies) will stand up all of a sudden and start looking around like something is in the room. My dad loved dogs! Probably the creepiest thing is at night, I always feel like there is someone else in the house. Gracie will stand up and start barking into the darkness which really scares me. Hi again, I'm glad you feel a bit better about it. I do understand and no your aren't going crazy! Please don't shut up about it because of what you think other people may think. We all have our own beliefs and like you said you know how you felt and what you saw, and don't let anyone ever take that away from you.

I have heard that before about spirit using the phone to try and get in contact when they have just passed over. I think maybe at this time your father may not have realised he had passed and yet was still earth bound, I think it can take a few days,and maybe even longer for some to realise where they are and no longer on the earth plane. I am sorry for the loss of your dad, but this just proves that he is around you,particularly with the dogs and trying to catch your attention.

Things always seem worse at night, I mean I talk to spirit but yet I don't want them around me at night because it scares me, not that they will hurt me, its just everything seems so much quiter in the evening,which usually it is, so alone with your thoughts,although you aren't alone, but hopefully you'll understand what I mean. :)

I think it's wonderful you saw your father, not a lot of people get that chance, you want to talk to him next time and let him know your aware he is there and your listening.

It's late here now in the UK, so I am going to have to cut this short for tonight. But I think talking about it will help you, as there's nothing worse than having nobody to talk to about your experiences. But please don't be scared, as there's nothing to be scared about. They didn't hurt us whilst they were here, so why would they now? :)

I agree, I believe it to be your father. You did see him that night. He was letting you know that he is OK where he is and not to worry so much about him. It is very common (or at least in my family) that any family member that passes comes to one of us (either one of my 2 aunts or myself) to pass the message along.

I also have a dog, a boxer, that liked to bark at darkness at night. One thing I did was when this happened, I would say out lout "This is my space, you are not aloud here at night, and if you have a message you will have to wait till morning." Since then my dog now will only bark at night when she looks out the window. Creating boundaries worked to keep whatever it was out till the day time, when I was prepared to help it.

Tiffany makes a very important point about creating boundaries. Otherwise you can get pestered by spirit. I have to tell them time and again to please back off as this is my time and they will and they do, just as Tiffany has explained about herself.
