How can I get my son to stop worrying that he is going to jail
My son got out of prison almost a year ago . He went due to his heroin addiction. Since he got out he has been doing well , but relapsed about 4 months ago. When he relapsed , he needed money and resorted to stealing from stores , so he could get stuff to sell to get his dope... Now he is on parole for a couple more months and luckily he didn't get caught when he relapsed but he says one time the alarm went off at the store and they saw him run out the door and get in his car and drive offf... This was about 3 months ago... Ever since then he has been real scared that they got his license plate number and that he could be caught. He hasn't heard anything from the store , the police , or his parole officer... Although he is clean now and back at his NA meetings , he is terrified that he still may get locked up and sent back to prison . He even called the courts to ask if he had any warrants in his name , which he didn't ,but he is so worried he wants to check with the police station or pay to do an online warrant check , he thinks asking the county court might not have been reliable... Can anyone please give me advice to help him get over this? I've told him that if they intended to get him , they would have come and questioned him by now... but he won't let it go .

The question is are you doing him a favor letting him get away with this?

He stole, it's a crime, he should go to prison for it, not hide.

How can you help him? Tell him to face what he's done and suffer the consequences of his actions.

How many times do you intend to ask this question?

You've gotten your answers. Either accept them or find your own way.

Would you want your child to go to prison ? Of course stealing is wrong and drug addiction is no exscuse but he is clean now and back on track and I would hate for him to have to go back to jail... And why are you worried about how many times I ask a question

If my child had done something wrong and jail was the only option, yes, I think that going to prison would be what's required. Would it make me devastated? Yes, of course, but coddling my child, letting him get away with it, that won't help him in the long run.

As for the amount of times you ask the same question. There are rules here. You've asked this question a few times, you've gotten responses. When there are multiple threads about the same topic from the same OP it get's mixed up and confusing, it also wastes our time and we volunteer that time in order to help others.

    Stick to one thread.
