My toilet gurgles when I wash clothes in the spin cycle when its draing out the washer, I can't go on the roof , can I go up the vent line with an auger from inside rthe house I can open it. I have one that will go up to the top ,and should I also go down to the bottom of the vent into the water wast line with the auger?
suzonka- this is useally caused by a stoppage in the drain line or the maion seweerline {you probably have roots growing in the linesif so you will need to- call a plumber good luck and god bless f.b.e.
The only way around rodding from the roof surface would be to open the vent stack where it first enters the attic, rod down from that point to the basement floor plus 20'

Gurgled indicate that the washer's attempting to ventt hrough the toilet.
Now if the john was bubbling then you'd have a stoppage. ( It IS a gurgle and not a bubble isn't it?)
YOu ask,It's not good plumbing practice to snake against the flow. On a sewer you never know where the snake will come up. Under a toilet or any branch that looks good to it.Quote:

However, you also stated,an d we're talking about a vent not a sewer. Before I tell you it's OK to snake a roof vent from inside the house I want to know more about this vent. You say you can get into it? Tell me how. This will be the washer vent that needs to be cleaned. You say you have a snake that will go up to the roof? What size is the cable?Quote:

What material pipes are we talking about? How old is your home?

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ this is a mobile home single wide and the total pipe vent to the roof is about out 12 feet, I have a 25 foot auger, and I was going to separate the bottom of the vent pipe in the bathroom where it connects into the trap line to the washer machine that eventually goes to the toilet where it gurgles. These roofs are so soft I don't want to go up there and its over 30 years old.Quote:

All you need is a sheet or two of 1/2 plywood to lay down as decking but I agree with mgd77, soft roof is another issue to worry about.
In my area there were many mobile home factories and back in the 70's I worked as a line plumber in them. If your washer's on a outside wall the vent should be reached by simply putting a ladder up next to the side and working off that.
I'm not all that comfortable advising you to cut into the base of the vent and snake up from there. You would have to cut into the sub floor to get at the base of the stack. A dirty messy job.
When you said you couldn't go on the roof I thought you were in a two or three story building. But hey! This is a trailer. Bite the bullet and snake from the washer roof vent. Good luck, Tom
