I am wandering if plastic lenses are NOT for everyone?

I was told that because I have a stigmatism in one eye I can not buy plastic lensed glasses? I have had a few eye exams and no one ever mentioned this to me before? I called that special 1-800-two-pair for their special of two pairs of glasses and an eye exam for $69.99. I informed them that I wear contact lenses and can not see out of the
Ones I bought over a year ago(which are soft ones) and that I am wearing my old ones (which are gas permeable ones) She then asked me to read her the numbers on the box and when I did this she informed me that I wouldn't be able to use there special because I wouldn't be able to wear plastic lenses? So now instead of the $69.99 special, it will cost me $201.95 to purchase glasses and have the exam. Wow, what a difference and is this for real? Is there such a thing like this?

We're talking about normal glasses, right? That's baloney.

You also mentioned gas permeable lenses. This implies contact lenses. I believe all contact lenses are made of some sort of polymer (plastic). I think they're trying to "bait and switch" you.

There are some types of contact lenses that won't work for people with astigmatism, because the lens has to be oriented on the eye. Nevertheless, these are still made of plastic.

I have astigmatism and I wear the normal every day lenses in my glasses. Someone is trying to jerk you out of money for the nice high priced ones.

I have gotten my glasses at this site for 4 years now. And each pair of glasses are perfect. And they send them right to your door :) as long as you have the prescription numbers

What do you mean "normal everyday lenses"? There are numerous types of lenses.

My apologies. I thought there to be only a few. The regular ones that most people get, the expensive 'thin' ones if you have a strong prescription, and the no-shatter ones.

I don't see how this is legal. If it is I wouldn't trust it. You can put any numbers you want in there, and they don't verify a prescription with a doctor's signature on it. VERY dangerous? Would you buy your vicodin or viagra online? I will look into the legality of this before I automatically have it deleted.

Everyone is different, there's no "regular" lens. The lens you are describing could be polycarbonate, high index, or trivex. The OP is asking about plastic lenses.

Hi there, do you happen to have your prescription available? I'd really like to know what the astigmatism is. Because yes, if your astigmatism is too high you'd need a polycarbonate or even high index lens. A plastic lens is bottom of the line. Not shatter-proof and many are not scratch proof. And can not accommodate a high astigmatism. So, this could be valid. But then again, everyone wants to up-sell. Most Opticians make commission from their sales. So your prescription information would be very helpful.
