    Child maintenance
I was going out with my girlfriend for 3 months we split up at the beginning of January, after we split up she told me she was pregnant

If my name is not on the birth certificate do I still need to pay child maintenance?

Your name not being on the birth certificate will not stip you from having to provide support. If she were to pursue it then she could take you to court and an order would be made for you to submit to a court ordered DNA test. You would then be placed on the birth certificate if the test comes back positive. Support would be required.

Even if the mother doesn't want to go after you directly for support, if she decides to apply for public assistance she will be required to list all possible fathers who will be contacted, have paternity tests done and the winner will get to pay support.
