approx cost of building a shower
I am trying to figure out a what a low price and high price to build a shower including the shower pan, running the plumbing, tiling and installing fixtures if I bought the material and just paid someone basically for their labor. I have gotten bids from 200.00 to 1,200.00. The shower is 3' x 6' x 8' tall

200-1200 for just labor , right? The guy who said $200 never built a shower so don't pick him and the $1200 want his kids to go to college on your dime. Got any bids around $750+?

    Hi all...

Need more info. Here... Are the pipes present for this job or does the person need to run all new pipes for this.. including a vent for the shower? Is this a custom shower pan using a vinyl membrane, a copper pan or a pre-fabricated shower pan? Let me know... O.K.

Like Bob said, steer clear of Mr. $200.00... very scary person there that would only become unhappy as the job progressed and cause all kinds of problems for you. After that, I would like answers to my questions before deciding if $750.00 to $1200.00 is fair or not.

When it comes to custom showers, tile jobs, etc. stick with reputable companies that can stand behind their work in case issues arise... because they do when showers are not properly installed. You would not believe the problems people share here about improperly installed showers... mold, mildew, tiles falling off walls, floor tile lifting... yucky stuff!

Let us know more... O.K.? See what we think after that...

Showers are funny ducks. I watched This Old House last night and Rich T was replacing a tub with a shower. He said there aren't any real options so he had a custom copper pan built off site. Then a guy came in to mud in the slope and a 3rd guy for tiling. Guess he never heard of a Swanstone 3260 retro shower pan made specifically to replace a tub. Rich drove up the cost of this shower from About $750 to over $2000 just in materials. You need several people to do what you want or a guy like me who will due the supply and drains, tile and paint. I don't do rough ins.

In Canada, to rebuild the shower from the slab up, staighten walls, build curbs, preslope pan, install cerloy line and 3 pcs drain, board, cement joints, redguard and dry pack base takes four or five days for the dust to settle and shoud come in around u$2200- $2500 including materials. Excluding a qualified plumber and materials. Sure anyone can roughin or install a liner. But can anyone get out of bed when their house is flooding. Call the plumber, that is why is use one.
