    Verbal agreement
My husband and I purchased a vehicle in my name for his daughter. It was registered & insured my name. She needed transportation to get back and forth to work. The verbal agreement was that as long as she lived with us she can use the car, once the car is paid off it will be transferred to her. She was responsible to the payments, including the down payment & her monthly insurance premium. She moved out breaking the verbal agreement, we took the car back to the dealer. Now she wants her down payment back. She is threatening to take us to Judge Judy. She came from out of state where she had a vehicle that was not registered & she carried no insurance. We could not take the liability chances of letting her move out on her own and keeping the vehicle in our name, if insurance payments or accidents happened it would jeopardize my license, etc.
She was also to pay rent upon moving in & didn't, and of course this was a verbal agreement too.
What decision do you think Judge Judy will come up with?

I think Judge Judy is good TV and bad law and a stupid threat.

That and you would have to consent to appear. Why would consent, if the case is chosen?

In Small Claims Court in the real World you would both tell your story and the Judge would believe one side.

She moved out and now wants her downpayment back? I don't think so. She's the one who broke the verbal agreement and didn't live up to her end of the agreement. I don't think Judge Judy would give her a cent. That's just my opinion from watching her show too many times. Judge Judy would tell her what do you want - have your cake and eat it too or something similar.
