    Debt Relief Order, do i qualify?
    Hi,

    I currently owe around £14,000. I rent a flat and own a car worth about £500 I have no assets and nothing I own is worth anything of value..

    I'm looking to do a Debt Relief Order this week but I'm slightly confused, I have read through all the terms etc: and I seem to qualify. The only bit I'm not sure on is the following statement;

    You must have less than £50 a month spare income after normal household expenses are taken into account.

    Does this mean when I've paid my rent, bills, car, petrol, general living that I need to have less than £50 or does it mean including what I actually pay, like I pay a couple of my debts most months like CCJ and home collected loan. Can I include these in expenditure?

    If I do that back to front I will end up losing money, which I can't afford to do.

    How does the court find there information - I rent a private flat, I don't even have a contact, will these sorts of things cause a problem?

    Also, I am going to New Zealand later in the year to visit my brother, will this effect my DRO?

    Any help would be really great!

    Thanks.

    Hello - it sounds to me as though you might be able to use a DRO - have a look at this page:

    What Is A Debt Relief Order - DRO Infomation from Baines and Ernst

    I reckon that gives you quite a lot of information about them
