It was kind of interesting.

It had weird behaviors.

It seemed to be afraid of me, but also seemed to have the excited and urinating problem too.
But he didn't bark or run away.

I did the normal thing and stooped to his level with palms up. He came close enugh to sniff and smell and then seemed to approach cautiously.

Then I was able to hold his collar while he was sitting and I was petting him. He seemed to be very comfortable and knew how to hand me his paw.

I checked his collar hand he had all sorts of tags on him. One with a name and a phone number. He didn't respond to that name.

I called the name on the tag and the dog lives down the street. He just recently "got away".

Lady said "How did you catch him"?

Good deed done.

I'm glad that he is safely back with his owners.

A lot of dogs won't repond to their names with strangers, he was probably nervous but firendly with the paw shaking... Same as when people are nervous they won't open up but they can still laugh :)

Interesting.

I don't quite know what the crawling he did and then the urinating after the first sniff. It was almost like he was ashamed.

A lady recently picked up a dog and was driving around to see who owned it. It was perfectly happy sitting in the front seat of the car as calm as can be.

It was probably out of fear. Was scared enough of you to urinate but not scared enough to shy away from you completely...

For some reason people around me are always letting their dogs get out.

My dogs always alert me when one is around and also for some reason I'm the only one to help them. All the other neighbors ignore them.

So far every dog has had tags and most owners were home. Sometimes they have come from miles away and have crossed busy streets to migrate to my home and I live in a circle.

I once walked a beautiful German Sheppard a mile back to his home, because there was no phone number, just an address. :confused:

I have the following on my pups tags.
Pups name
My cell phone
Husband cell phone
Work phone

Most dogs get out when you are not at home but at work, but most of the people only put their home numbers on the tags. (if you are home you would know pretty quick if you dog wasn't there) or you should.:D

Future reference there are reverse directory that will give you homeowners name and # based on address supplied

We have microchipping here so not many people have tags...
It's a little electronic chip that goes under the dogs skin. All Australian breeders are required to have their puppies chipped before they are sold.
Then all you have to do when you buy a puppy is register your name with their number.
Pretty good permanent way of keeping track of dogs, plus no-one can change it without knowing the microchip number :)

I live in ny and when I got my dog "chiped" they included a mambership in a pet finder service. When your dog is lost they post to all the members that your pet is missing with complete description picture and contact info

Yep, for the 2 seconds of pain the puppies goes through it really is worth it in the long run :)

My dogs have the chip also, but that requires the findee to take to a vet to get it read doesn't it? :confused: I still leave the name tags on and the tag that says they have a chip.:)

Yes, you either have to take the dog to a shelter or to a vet to have the microchip scanned.

If someone decides to steal or keep a dog they have 'found' next time they take it to the vet for a check up they will be in for a rude shock when the vet discovers that the dog isn't theirs.

Tags and chips are good for different reasons :)
