    Backfeeding plugs
I can't seem to fix the problem. When I pull the plug out and check it I get no lights on my tester from the black and white. But when I touch the black or the white to the ground I get lights on my tester. But there is no power coming out of the outlet.

Are you saying you get 120 on both the black and the white?

If you have voltage between hot and ground, but not between hot and neutral, the neutral wire is broken.

If you have neutral to ground voltage, something else is plugged into the circuit before the neutral break.

Either way, it's a broken neutral wire.
