    Fire & Brimstone
    Hello:

I've never seen a dog stare into a fire before. Besides the RCA dog, I've never seen a dog enjoy music before either...

As a species, why do we enjoy looking at fire? Why do we enjoy listening to music?

Don't know about dogs and fire, but I can tell you that our kitten stared into the fireplace for quite a long time we he first saw fire - see the proof below.

As for music - it's my personal theory that music and language are intertwined. To understand the nuances of speech you have to be perceptive to subtle tonal differences and rhythm. The genes that give you the ability to parse speech that you hear into thought also allow you to understand music. Conversely, if you don't have the genes that let you understand speech, then you can't understand music either - it would just seem like so much background noise, all jumbled up. So I don't think dogs, cats, or most animals would "enjoy" music.

With our higher level thinking skills we sometimes enjoy the distraction and can be mesmerized.
