Ceiling fan remote to dim light from motor control
We wired a new light into the dining room. The previous fixture was a fan with a pull chain which we replaced with a fancy three bulb chandelier fixture. The circuit has no switch just wired direct to the ceiling box.
We bought a fan remote to install between the box and the light (with no fan) to act as a dimmer switch. We wired the input side of the remote w-w b-b g-g, no problem. The output side had two black wires that said they should be wired to a fan motor, and one green to wire to the light.
The hand control has an off, a light control and a low, med, high for the fan motor.
We wired the light lamp cord from the chandelier to the two black wires for the fan motor.
It seems to dim the lights to the three different settings no problem.
When we wired the green and a black it would not dim on the light switch of the hand held remote just turn it on and off.
My question, is there any danger in controlling the light with the power designed for a fan motor? There are only three chandeliers bulbs in the whole fixture.
    Thanks, Dennis

There is no danger in using a fan remote to control a chandeliers but I am confused with what you did with that green wire, green is your ground. Tell us more.

Sorry, it was a blue, a black and a white coming out. Tried white and blue, no good. Tried Black and Blue, turned on and off with light switch but no dim. Tried white and black and it dimmed using the fan speed switchs, is this OK?

Here is what you need to remember. This is coming off the fan. Black is the hot for the fan, blue is the hot for the light kit, white is nuetral for both and green is you ground. If you have no switch and want to only use the oull chains then the three wires coming out of the ceiling go: ceiling black to fan black, ceiling black to light blue, ceiling white to fan white and ceiling green to fan green or housing. You never connect the green to white or black or blue, ever.

Dennis, keep in mind that the remote with the wires acts like a switch but must have constant 120volt power to it since it is turned on and off by a remote control. You should have a white, black and bare ground wire in your ceiling box. Connect the white wire from the box to the white wire from the remote and the white/neutral wire from the light. Connect the bare ground wire from the box to the green wire from the remote and the ground wire from the light, connect the black wire from the box to the input power wire on the remote. This gives you constant 120v power to the remote. You should have a blue and black wire as your output connection. One is for controlling a fan and the other is for controlling a light.Usually one is marked for light which is probably the blue wire. Connect this wire to the wire from the light and try the dimmer control( not the fan control). If this works then make sure to cap the other wire off separately as this wire is not needed since you do not have a fan. The instructions usually tells you which color is for the light and which one is for a fan. Good luck

Dennis, I forgot to mention that you probably should have what is called little dip switches in your remote and remote control that also need to be set with each other in order to make each the remote control work correctly. Your instructions should have an explanation on how to set the switches. Good luck

Blue and white SHOULD work. If it doesn't it's possible something is damaged. Are you using fluorescent bulbs? Also try pushing and holding the light button on the remote.
