Relocating the laundry in our basement
Hi. I am hoping to relocate our washer and dryer from one side of the basement to the other. Currently the washer drains into a laundry tub, which drains into the main 4" line. On the other side of the basement, where I would like the future laundry room to be, there is a smaller drain line, which currently carries the kitchen sink/dishwasher load. This line runs down through the basement, and underground to the front of the property where it meets up with the larger line. Is this possible? Is the kitchen line large enough to add laundry to it as well? Would it help if it were used in conjunction with a laundry tub and small drain pump, sending it up several feet before it ties in with the kitchen drain? Thanks for your input, Alice

    Hi Alice...

Most likely that pipe going into the floor is 2" pipe size. If 2" pipe size then it should not be an issue connecting the washing machine into the kitchen sink drain.

The bigger issue here will be how to VENT the washing machine drain line as it needs its own dedicated vent. In most areas, you will need to install an 1.5" vent and run that vent until it can connect into another vent in the basement (or upstairs)... probably closest vent will be where the washing machine is now... maybe?

Now, what about the dryer vent.. Where is that going to go?

    Let us know more...

I have a suggestion. The dryer can vent through the side of the house, (see image) and the washer could vent throigh a AAV, (see image). Sound like a plan? Regards, Tom
