My Hr manager discussed with my husband details about an investigation that I'm involved in. I have not wanted to involve him at all. Both my husband and myself work for the same company and although this investigation involves him somewhat, the information she devulged to him did not involve him at all. I am furious because I am completely and total innocent of what I am being accused of and can prove it. I feel that I am being assaulted both professionally and personnaly. What can I do and is this illegal of her?

Do you work in the medical profession?? Was this medical information that was given.

HIPPA applies to the medical profession

You can file a complaint about this to your company manager and the person over the HR manager

First Chuck did not make assumptions. He asked for clarification because you left out important facts.

As noted HIPAA provides penalties for medical caregivers revealing information about diagnosis and treatment.

It doesn't matter what your husband's medical condition is. Unless your company is involved in your medical care there can be no HIPAA violation. Even if the company was involved in your medical care, unless aspects of your care was discussed with him there is no HIPAA violation.

Without knowing the nature of the investigation or the reasons the HR Mgr discusses aspects with your husband we can't say how wrong he was. But I don't see anything remotely conneced with HIPAA here.

Maybe you better do some more research before pulling irrelevancies into things.

Best way to think of HIPAA is doctor/patient privilege. This includes nurses, CNA's, lab techs, and any person employed in the care of the health of the patient.

If this did not involve medical personnel then there is no violation.

" In the online world, it is often difficult to interpret some remarks because we lack the tone of voice and facial expressions that make up more than 70% of communication.

But the fact remains, that I did try to help with your question. The subject you entered referred to a HIPAA violation. But nothing in your post indicated anything close to a HIPAA issue and that was explained to you. With the sparse info you gave us, it is hard to help you further.

I do understand your frustration, but taking it out on the people trying to help you is not going to get you anywhere.

Immediately prove your position to parties involved.

And perhaps the issue with trust in marriage was uncalled for, I do find that so many issues start when we hide things from our marriage partner.

But the real issue is, you have not came back to give any real information, and refused to give more details to even suggest this is a HIPPA issue.

My late husband had serious health problems. I didn't keep things from him for this same reason - when things come out (and they always do), it's worse than if I had told him in the first place.

It is a shame that the HR manager divulged information to your husband. It appears you were trying to protect him from some "bad report".
As previously answered, it is not a HIPAA violation. HIPAA stands for Health Information Portability and Accountability Act, so unless the HR manager is involved in your care, or the insurance company added a pre exiting condition clause to your insurance, it is not a violation.
Without knowing further details, it may be poor judgement on the part of the HR manager, but unless she was told not to discuss it with your husband, I don't think she did anything wrong.
I do hope you get "cleared".
