    Sound Problems
Recently I lost my computer sound. Although, when I play dvds or cds, I DO have good sound so it's not the speakers (which are internal) but I have NO windows sounds, can't watch videos, - no system sounds whatsoever. I did go into audio devices and when it comes to the place where I choose volume - it's blanked out - not available to be checked. Help please.

Yes I checked. I went into audio devices and when I come to the place where you turn up the volume - it's not available.

Get into Device Manager (Click START | RUN enter "devmgmt.msc" and click GO). Locate "Sound, video, and game controllers" Delete the entries that relate to the sound card. Click ACTION | Scan for hardware changes. The sound card should be found again. Use the "Automatic" (or whatever it says) for the install.

If that doesn't work (50:50 chance), try reinstalling your drivers from the original installation disks. If you don't have the original disks, you can download them from the card's manufacturer. In fact, getting the newest drivers for your card is probably better than installing from the original disks.

If you have any trouble, post back with more information.

My first question. For the first time have a Sony Vaio and am disappointed the volume is so low even though I have turned up to high. There is no volume control on the actual screen. Sony surprisingly haven't been very helpful but I just wondered if anyone can help. Sony did say I may have to go into Settings but didn't help beyond that. Thanks. Dollyoz.

Try downloading the classic media player, it comes with pretty good hacks and tricks to solve these problems. Another thing, you can try to download the audio codecs, to fix this problem. Come back to me if it didn't. :)
