    Start Button Options
I am using XP Professional and have been for some time. I am using Start Menu, not the classic Start Menu. For some reason today when I click on start I don't get another box that lets me choose whether I want to shut down or reboot. If I change to classic I do, but I much prefer the other. What could have happened and how do I get it to work normally?
I have rebooted, checked for virus etc. I don't know what else to do.
    Thank you.

Do you mean the box that gives you the options "standby, power off, or reboot" or the one that lets you access poweroff, settings, applications, etc?

Try creating a new user account and see if the problem also occurs with that account.

It is the button that is always in the bottom left corner of the screen. You click start and then click turn off computer and then you are supposed to get another box with three options, turn off, reboot, or safe. I no longer get the last option. I have also noticed that my back button no longer works when I'm surfing the net. Another strange thing is if I am doing something that offers me choices where I click an arrow and then have to choose from a list, the list goes away so fast I cannot choose. I haven't made any changes or installed anything new. What in the world could have happened?

    Hmm...

Do you have pop-up stopper software running?

Try creating a new user account (start-->settings-->ctrl panel-->user accounts) and log in as that user, and see if the problem still occurs.

    Hope this helps...
