    Probability and cards
    A card is selected at random from a standard deck of playing cards (52).

    a) Compute the probability that the card is red.

    b) Compute the probability that the card is a spade.

    c) Compute the probability that the card is a 9.

    d) Compute the probability that the card is a face card (jack, queen, or king)

    e) Compute the probability that the card is between 5 and 9.

    There have been a number of very similar problems posted with excellent solution advice. (Scroll down and look at "similar threads" under your post. I recommend that you look at some of them, try the problems yourself, and then post whatever difficulties you may be having. Or, post your answers and ask to have your work checked.

    The basis of probability rests on the fact that you have some possibility of some extent to have something, in the form of a fraction, where the denominator is the number of possible outcomes you want to have / may have and the numerator as the total number of outcomes.

    For example, the first question is about red cards. You want to know the probability of obtaining a red card. This is given by the number of red cards over the total number of cards, that is

    Can you do the rest now?
