    Does Virginia have 'Established Residency"?
I have a female relative who owns a home in Norfolk, VA. She has a live-in boyfriend who moved in long after the female relative purchased the home and has been living there off and on for the last four years. This live-in boyfriend is not on the deed, nor does he support the house financially. Lately he has become abusive. What rights does the female relative have to have this person leave? Is there "established residency" in VA?

If he gets mail there, it can be considered his residence and legal eviction may need to happen.

However, if he is abusive, have her seek a protective/restraining order against him. That will keep him gone while the legal eviction can happen.

To be safe (and avoid an illegal eviction suit) its always best to go through the eviction process for anyone who might be considered a resident (as opposed to a guest).
