I have a well with a submerged pump and a pressure tank that sits in my basement. I discover that my basement had flooded so I cut power to the pump because I was not sure where the water was coming from. I later closed the circuit breaker to the pump and then went into the kitchen and opened the faucet, there was no water flow. I did hear some gurgling noise. I left the faucet open for a while and still got no water flow. I then open other faucet through the house and still nothing. I went down into the basement and notice a gauge that is near the bottom of the pressure tank read 0, I open the faucet that is near the pressure tank at there was water flow. I then open the circuit breaker to the pump.

Located near pressure gauge is a small box (pressure switch).

Turn off power to pump and remove cover on pressure switch. Turn on power. There is a set of contacts. Are they closed?

The pressure switch contact where open. I noticed a lever on the side of the pressure switch. I open the breaker to the pump and actuated the lever, which closed the contacts. I then close the breaker to the pump. I did open a faucet in one of the bathrooms and at least here a rush of air come from the facuet.

That tells me the pump was pulling water up the suction pipe. Did you let it continue until water came out? Let me know, Tom

I had a friend that walked me through restarting water in my house. Initially I went down and flipped a lever on my pressure switch, that was not correct. My friend said I needed to close the circuit breaker to the pump and remove the cover from the pressure switch. I was told to close the value that supplies water to the whole house. Then I was to lift the lever until the contact on the pressure switch where actually closed. While holding the lever watch the pressure gauge and when the gauge reads about 40psi release the lever and the lever should hold its position ( which was approx. 45 degrees relative to the pressure switch). After reaching 40psi I could open the value that supplies water to the rest of the house. I was successful and now have running water and a better understanding of the function of the pressure switch.
